Agneta Sofia Salander was Lisbeth Salander's mother. She is talked about in all three novels, but dies in the first book in the series, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Physical Description[]

Before "All the Evil", Agneta was described as fat, unlike Lisbeth, but "downright beautiful", with a very full figure. Camilla is said to resemble her more than Lisbeth.

Biography[]

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo[]

Lisbeth Salander visits her for Christmas at her nursing home. Agneta is confused and easily distracted. She keeps confusing Lisbeth with her estranged twin sister Camilla. At the end of the book, Lisbeth receives news that Agneta has passed away and she rushes home for the funeral.

The Girl Who Played With Fire[]

Even though Agneta dies in the first novel we don't learn her story until the second. She was repeatedly beaten by her boyfriend Alexander Zalachenko, Lisbeth's father, causing her deteriorated condition in Dragon Tattoo. We learn that Lisbeth saved her mother from more abuse by throwing gasoline on Zalachenko and setting him on fire.
